Ian Edgar - 1960 profile Industrial Design

Whilst curating the current exhibition 'a design life' 17-71 on the career of Robert Ian Edgar the existence of a profile article on Ian as a young industrial designer published in the Australian Woman's Weekly was discussed. Ian did not have a copy so I tried several times to locate the article scanning microfiche copies of the iconic national magazine in the State Library of Victoria. Even as we setup the exhibition earlier last month I had contemplated searching for it again.

To my delight whilst working on another blog post today the article appeared in the results of a google search for industrial design in 'TROVE' the research database.......

The article is exactly as Ian had described it at our first chat about his archive and fits perfectly into the notion of a design life form 17 to 71. This profile in a teenage insert 'other boys jobs' was arranged by Colin Barrie who was President of the Industrial Design Institute of Australia and profiled Ian as young designer who sort to make industrial design his life long career. The original car sketch pictured is featured in the current exhibition 'a design life' 17-71 at the Design Gallery of the Design Institute of Australia until April 27th.
