Master of Industrial Design students from the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) are currently exhibiting innovative prototypes of autonomous delivery robots and drones at the Suzhou campus. The exhibition of twenty nine graduate projects also includes C-Breeze a cloud based window air filtering and monitoring system, iBay-B an autonomous baby stroller and GEEN an interior screen and air filtering concept. 'The working prototypes and smart phone apps are outstanding outcomes from our double masters program with SouthEast University' said Ian Wong Program Director - Master of Industrial Design Monash Univeristy. "The design research conducted in China by the students focussed on innovation and new concepts designed in China.

The Master of Industrial Design is one of five programs currently offered at the Southeast Univeristy-Monash Univeristy Joint Graduate School (Suzhou).

Designed in China - Autonomous logistics robot

Monash graduates deliver innovation in China.

Master of Industrial Design student Guo Feng - James designs a working prototype and smart phone app for an autonomous logistics robot. The growth of e-commerce and online purchases in China has led to an explosion in the delivery of small parcels direct to the individual.  

The autonomous logistics robot takes delivery at reception from the courier and then navigates internally in a building to your location.

Designed in China - C-Breeze innovative Window Air Purifier

Breathe is the topic chosen by Baoling Yang for her Master of Industrial Design major project. 

C-Breeze is an innovative Cloud controlled Solar powered Window Air Purifier system for the emerging smart home market. The app to drive the system was produced as a working prototype.

Designed in China - C-Breeze innovative Window Air Purifier designed by Master of Industrial Design student Baoling Yang Snow.

C-Breeze Window Air Purifier is an innovative window system with built in air purification. It ensures fresh air in every room as it purifies external polluted air before it enters the room, and releases anions and emits UV light to purify all existing room air. The exterior window surface is made of solar panels to convert solar energy to electricity and power the purifier. A number of hexagonal structural panels are glazed to let in sunlight. Six larger panels can rotate for ventilation and to allow for greater solar collecting efficiency. C-Breeze utilizes the innovative fan free ionic wind technology so it is whisper quiet when working. Users can control it by a keypad on the window frame or remotely by an app on the smartphone.

Designed in China this innovative design service system operates as a community service to high rise communities in China. Like a flying mailbox the drone will deliver items from local retailers to apartments 24/7.  Medicine delivery in particular for the elderly or young parents would be a priority.

Designed in China - GEEN air purifier screens Yunfei Long

Designed in China GEEN is an innovative air puriifier and screen.

The concept GEEN is pronounced like three Chinese words: 境 (view), 景 (scene), 净(clean). The word also looks like “GREEN” which is the key objective of this research project to improve air quality in China.

Design research for forms included studies of classical chinese gardens and architecture as well as chinese painting and calligraphy. The bonsai placed in the flowerpot and the air purifier incorporated would clean the interior air providing visual and physical comfort. This product can be placed both in commercial interiors like hotel lobbies or individuals’ apartments.

Designed in China - Innovative educational toy Kai Fang

Connectivity to parents for millions of 'left behind' children was the inspiration for an innovative cloud connected educational toy concept by Master of Industrial Design student Kai Fang.

The concept utilises popular voice recording features of cloud based social media apps like WeChat to allow parents to read stories and connect. Children can talk to the toy and leave messages for parents.

Rapid economic development throughout the world has caused a rich poor gap that has forced millions of workers to emigrate from the rural areas to the cities. This has created millions of children left behind in the rural areas under the care of relatives, mostly grandparents with little or no education, family friends, or having to take care of themselves. 

Often, the caretakers do not have the physical ability, financial means nor possess the knowledge needed to take care of these children. In China alone, there are 61 million children; 40% of these children are under age 5. 70% of these left behind children in China do not get to see their parents annually.
