Tate Anson - SOYA

Melbourne Movement member and RMIT alumnus industrial designer Tate Anson has entered the Spirit of Youth Awards for 2012.

I would encourage all to support emerging talent and vote in the people's choice for these awards.

Driven by the potential for new technology to reinvent and reinvigorate traditional furniture making Tate is emerging as a design talent and winning this award would greatly support his career.

An amazing twelve month mentorship from Marc Newson is on offer.

Good luck Tate.

Tate Anson - Salone Satellite

Fresh from success at the Graduate of the Year Awards Melbourne Movement's Tate Anson will present his innovative Tryst and Solaris products at Salone Satellite 2012.

The Tryst stool capitalises on the elegance and strength of timber to achieve a delicate yet durable product that marries the conveniences of modern machining and traditional wood craft.

The bespoke Tryst stool offers an allure that is reminiscent of traditional hand-crafted timber furniture. Utilising the pattern that allows the form to be created as the primary aesthetic detail, the Tryst stool is an honest reflection of allowing the stretched timber process to dictate the form, offering beauty and intrigue to any setting, Tryst is an elegant addition to any environment.

This clock is produced from a single piece of timber. The timber is machined and steam-bent into a 360 degree array and once joined, the closed loop retains its form and offers a stunning visual, capitalising on the natural beauty of the material.

The Solaris clock is available in various sizes and finishes, making a bold statement in any domestic or commercial environment.

Salone Satellite 2012 - Creativeans

On your first trip to Salone Satellite in Milan it is good to make friends and benefit from the experience of others. I was fortunate to meet Kimming Yap, a graduate from the Domus Academy, and his support and assistance was very much appreciated this past week. His design studio Creativeans with designers Khairul Hussin, Yulia Saksen, and Sharina Bi is based in both Milan and Singapore.

The invite for Melbourne Movement to the Domus Academy 30th birthday party and exhibition was hand delivered to our stand and Tate Anson, Jiyoon Kim, Jasna Manolios and myself were able to attend. I was particularly keen to be there having previously attended a Domus Academy Winter School in Melbourne with Michele de Lucchi.
