Ben Landau - La Petite Fabrique de Brunswick

A visit to the Finders Keepers Market tonight was a chance to catch up with industrial designer Ben Landau and Lucile from the  La Petite Fabrique de Brunswick stall. Ben was a student at RMIT industrial design in my upperpool studio 72%WATER back in 2007 and went on to study a Masters degree in Eindhoven. Ben and Lucile formed the studio Alterfact based in Melbourne in 2014.

Stuart Devlin - Australian decimal coins

Fifty years ago in 1964 Stuart Devlin was selected to design Australia's new decimal coins. This work was a significant achievement for Stuart at the time and the nation celebrated his design talent during the extensive public advertising campaign as we went decimal in 1966.

Decor - Colander

Travelling in regional Victoria during the Summer break has always been very productive for my collection of Australian industrial design products and this year is no exception. The only issue is keeping the vintage plastic items safe from the 40+ degrees in the car.

Decor - Kitchen canisters

Pure geometry dominates the design of these Decor canisters from the 1970s designed by Richard Carlson. Textiles, wallpapers and patterns from the 70s feature similar geometric designs.

Stuart Devlin - Archive drawings

It has taken me almost three years to get to Canberra to view the archive sketches of our iconic decimal coins designed by RMIT University alumnus Stuart Devlin. I interviewed Stuart in London and have wanted to views his sketches and study his process ever since.

Bernie Walsh workshops are highly recommended and suitable for beginners, design students, or practicing designers. Folio preparation for interviews in Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design or Architecture can be significantly enhanced given Bernie's experience in lecturing at RMIT University and Swinburne University's industrial design programs.

Check out Bernie's blog if you have not already and consider enrolling in one of his upcoming workshops.

Lionel Suttie - Quartic canisters

My collection of products designed in Victoria continues to grow and this week it is the Quartic canisters designed by Lionel Suttie. The addition of a polypropelene lid extend the Quartic range and this is the first example I have seen of the canister range. It is also the first example of the use of the classic letraset font eurostyle Q as a tampo printed graphic.
