Philips Color TV - 1975

This 1975 era TV on ebay appeared last week just in time for inclusion in the exhibition 'a design life' 17-71. I travelled to the LaTrobe valley last Saturday to collect my 0.99cent purchase of Victorian industrial design history.

1975 era Philips television designed by the team at Philips CID in Clayton.

  1. Do you know the model number for this TV? I wondered if it might be on the back? I also have one but can't find the model number. I want to get a date of manufacture but it's hard without a model number to go on. Mine actually also says 50th Anniversary Model on it...

    1. The model number of that TV is the KL 697, the bigger brother of the single speaker KL657.
The 22" version was the KL257.
The last digit tells you the year of release. The similar push button versions were the KJ256 and 656. Released the previous year.

  3. The K12A-1 chassis replaced the K11A-3 chassis in 1978. The new models in 78 were the KH258, KH658.
The KJ ( non remote push button ) versions were sold alongside them.
The K12 chassis series were replaced for the 1980 model range by the
    KL9A-1 chassis for 22 & 26" models.
For the 18 and 20" models it was the KT3A-1 chassis.
I was a TV technician in the day..hope this helps
