Innovators - Australian Design & Innovation is an exhibition that celebrates design and innovation from Australia. The exhibition will feature sixteen digital archives with iconic Australian innovations like wifi, the bionic ear, polymer notes, and innovators including Marc Newson, Michael Simcoe and Denton Corker Marshall.

The exhibition design theme highlights the invention of wifi by the CSIRO in Australia presenting cloud based content on IOS devices utilising an app and mobile content delivery technology developed by Art Processors.

Curator Ian Wong is collaborating with a traditional Chinese artist merging ancient Chinese craft with the latest lightweight metal 3D printing technology. The resulting 3D printed traditional Chinese seals (yang) are featured as the “trigger” for this sustainable and innovative interactive exhibition.

The digital archive for each project is activated automatically as visitors approach each individually crafted seal resting on a small podium.

Innovation and cloud based technologies represent the future and this exhibition highlights Australia’s proud history of innovation and celebrates our contemporary design professionals.

Rio Olympic Games 2016 - Usain Bolt gold medal running shoe concept sketch

This morning in Suzhou Bernie Walsh created a speed sketch inspired by Usain Bolt's 100 metre Olympic games gold medal win in RIO2016 today. Bernie is an outstanding educator and expert on digital sketching practice for industrial design. Bernie posted the sketch in WeChat to our Monash University students in Suzhou just hours after Usian Bolts history making third Gold Medal achievement in Rio. The speed sketch drew inspiration from the new Puma top worn by Bolt this morning.

BlackBOX – Design and Innovation | Melbourne Australia is an exhibition that celebrates design and innovation from Melbourne Victoria Australia.

The black box flight recorder was invented in Melbourne in 1957 by David Warren. Adopted as a standard air safety device it is installed on all commercial aircraft so this innovative research has had global impact.

The analysis of data captured by a black box flight recorder provides valuable insights that help to ensure future air travel is safer. The BlackBOX research project has captured raw data about the history of design and innovation in Melbourne and the exhibition acts as an archive for future analysis and research.

The exhibition layout references Melbourne’s town planning, with the Hoddle grid inspiring a field of sixty four 3D printed boxes. Products designed by professional designers that have endured are featured with most still in production. A digital archive for each project is activated as visitors approach an individual box.

The pure geometric cubes represent solid state memory and reference the idea of the black box. They give voice to an untold history of design and innovation from Melbourne. Actual flight recorders are neither black nor box shaped. The content is viewed utilising Melbourne based Art Processors innovative mobile content delivery solutions.

The app is available for iOS mobile devices using wifi which highlights the invention of wifi by the CSIRO in Australia.
