MadART Exhibition - Toyoto Community Spirit Gallery

The MadART exhibition is now on at the Toyoto Community Spirit Gallery in Port Melbourne.

The Toyota Community Spirit Gallery is located in Toyota Australia's corporate headquarters in Port Melbourne at 155 Bertie Street.

The gallery aims to provide space for artists, especially emerging artists to show their work. The gallery opened in July 2004 and runs a continuous program of exhibitions. The program is focused on local artists but also includes works by regional and interstate artists. Currently the works of more than 935 artists have been exhibitied. The space is provided free of charge to exhibiting artists, no commission is charged on sales and Toyota provides an exhibition launch and develops a catalogue for each exhibition.

Toyota is working with the Hobsons Bay City Council, City of Port Phillip on the Toyota Community Spirit project.

The Community Spirit Gallery is open to the public at Toyota Australia's Corporate Headquarters, 155 Bertie St, Port Melbourne Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (closed on public holidays).

Beijing Design Week - Inaugural Australian delegation.

As part of the Australian Government’s ongoing promotion of Australian creative industries in China, the Australian Embassy in Beijing will be organising and funding a small delegation of Australian design professionals to attend the 2014 Beijing Design Week.

The Embassy invites Australian design and architecture industry association representatives, individual practitioners, and design industry media to apply for a place in this inaugural Australian Design Industry Delegation to Beijing Design Week 2014, taking place during the period 26 September – 3 October, 2014.

The objectives of the Delegation are to:

Encourage greater institutional and person-to-person links between Australian and Chinese design and architecture associations and industries, and
Promote Australian design, architecture, creativity and urbanism in China.

Although the visit program will be finalised in coming weeks, it is intended that the Australian Design Industry Delegation to Beijing Design Week 2014 will feature a variety of activities to introduce delegation members to Beijing Design Week, fellow associations and practitioners in China, and other opportunities. The program will likely include a “highlights tour” of Beijing Design Week; “Australian Design in China” focused events, a design and architecture tour of Beijing, and networking opportunities.

The Embassy will fund travel to Beijing and accommodation for successful delegates. 

Specific eligibility and selection criteria apply. Interested applicants are encouraged to carefully read the eligibility criteria and terms and conditions, and submit their completed application form together with a current CV (including association, firm or organisation background where useful) to the Australian Embassy in Beijing by no later than midnight AEST, Sunday 10 August, 2014.

Knog - Industrial Design in China

Professor Xu Jiang was keen to visit the Knog studio in Richmond during his first trip to Melbourne. Knog and Catalyst Design Group directors Hugo Davidson and Malcolm McKechnie have supported studios at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint graduate School (Suzhou).

Professor Xu Jiang form the industrial design program at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) visited Melbourne for the first time over recent weeks.

Outerspace Design Group - Industrial Design in China

Industrial Design in China was the focus of discussions between lecturers from Suzhou and directors of Outerspace Design Group this week. Professor Xu Jiang was visiting Monash University in Melbourne for the first time in his role with the Industrial Design program at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou). Medical innovation in China is a focus for the Master of Industrial design program in Suzhou.

CobaltNiche - Industrial Design in China

CobaltNiche directors Steve Martinuzzo and Jack Magree met with lecturers from Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) this week to discuss industrial design in China.  Professor Xu Jiang was visiting Melbourne for the first time and provided insights into the practice of industrial design in China. Transport and medical device design in China was of particular interest to CobaltNiche.
